Las Vegas Strip Map, Las Vegas Monorail and Transportation, and Tips
Las Vegas Strip Map
Above, you will see a Las Vegas Strip map. This simple map gives you a good idea of where things are located in the town. All of the major hotels are listed, as well as Interstate 15, major roads, and McCarran International Airport. All of the monorails are displayed in green with their stops indicated by a dark green circle. The actual length of "The Strip" is about 3.8 miles long. Most of the casinos are within walking distance of each other, especially in the center of the strip. It is possible to walk the whole length of the Las Vegas Strip, but you better have on your best pair of walking shoes on and a couple bottles of water. For the most part, people depend on different types of transportation.
Las Vegas Transportation
Taxi Cabs
Probably the easiest and most commonly used method of transportation for tourists is taxi cabs. The cab system in Las Vegas really has it down to an art, and things run very smoothly. Expect to pay somewhere between $8-$25 per cab ride depending on where you are going.
Las Vegas Monorail and Trams
One common method of transportation is the Las Vegas Monorail. It runs on the backside of the hotels on the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard. It has 7 stops which include: Sahara, Las Vegas Hilton, Las Vegas Convention Center, Harrah's, Bally's, and the MGM Grand. A single ride costs $5, an unlimited day pas is $13, and an unlimited 3-day pass is $28. The hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and Friday-Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.There are two other trams in the town. One is located between Treasure Island and the Mirage, as seen on the Las Vegas Strip map above. This makes it a little easier to get between the two casinos. The ride is only for about two minutes, and waiting time between every tram is about ten minutes. Hours of operation are Sunday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Friday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. and the cost is free. The other tram is located between the Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay which is also shown in green on the Las Vegas Strip map above. This tram's route is different depending on where you are starting. If you get on at Excalibur's main station, it will take you straight to Mandalay Bay. If you get on at Mandalay Bay, it will stop at the Luxor, and then Excalibur. It runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and it is also free to ride.
Transportation Tips
The Las Vegas Monorail is a good deal if you are staying on the east side of the strip, and those are the hotels that you plan on hanging out in. It is a cheaper option than taxi cabs. However, you will do a lot more walking because you have to walk to the back of the hotel where you are getting on, and then walk completely through another hotel to get to Las Vegas Boulevard after you reach your destination. So it isn't very practical if you are staying/hanging out in the hotels on the west side of the strip. There really isn't any reason not to ride the trams at Treasure Island and the Mirage, or the one between Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. They just make life easier, and they are FREE! Cabs are a great way to get around Las Vegas. They are probably the fastest method of transportation overall. The only thing that anyone should worry about, is sometimes taxi cab drivers will take you a long way on purpose to run up the fare. They hope that the tourists won't know any better. Their favorite way to do this is to take people that are staying on the east side of the strip to Interstate 15, to get to and from the airport. This can sometimes double the cab fare and takes much longer. To avoid this, simply tell the driver in the beginning of the ride, "Take me to the airport, and don't take the interstate."
