Fred's High Roller Blog-Mystic Lake Minnesota
Well everyone, let me first say that I am very sorry for missing last week. I ended up getting sick, and I couldn't take my trip until this weekend, so I just held off on the blog until today.
Anyways, let's get into things. So, I decided to play blackjack in Mystic Lake casino in Minnesota. It's an alright place to go. I go up there sometimes because I have some friends and family up there that I like to visit. So it's easy to go to the casino there. On this trip I didn't play a whole lot, but I did make it to the casino for a little while. For those of you wondering, it's not because of the comps. A general rule of thumb is that Indian casinos comp horribly. This isn't always the case of course, but generally speaking if you are playing at an Indian casino, they are probably the only one in town. This lack of competition means less comps for the players because they figure that you are going to go play there anyways. Mystic Lake hotel is an alright place to play. They have very nice rooms, and the place is pretty nice in general. The only things that I don't like about it is the fact that they don't serve alcohol. Also, the place is really smokey, and they only offer blackjack, slots, and bingo. So I went down to the pit and played a little while. I was goofing around and I was down about $3,000. So then I went back to high stakes, and I just couldn't get anything going. Lose, lose, lose, lose. I bounced around a couple of tables, and I just couldn't get things going. I was down about $12,000 at this point. So I considered quitting, but I saw one last table in high stakes and I figured I'd give it one more shot. So I sat down and decided to play 3 hands. The first hand the dealer busts. Then I do it again, and the dealer busts again! Long story short, I ended up staying at that table for about 3 hours and ended up winning $5,000 for the trip. It's funny how things work out. A lot of times if you can just get on that one really hot table it can make your whole trip. So I ended up winning $5,000 in one night, and strangely enough one night is all I played. I had a lot of fun visiting people up there, so one night is all I had time for. It was kind of strange that the night was so uneventful. Normally I'll meet some real wackos in casinos, but it wasn't the case this time. I guess it was because I only played one night and for most of it I had the table to myself. So I'm sorry that there aren't any wacky stories to tell, but sometimes that's just the way it is. So next week we'll have our second edition of "Ask Fred" because I'm not going out of town. I'm going to take the week off, then I have to decide where I want to go. So until then, send in any questions that you may have for me, and if they are good enough, we'll put them on the site. Until next week, this is Fred signing off.
