Fred's High Roller Blog-Tunica Mississippi

Hi again everyone. Before I go into my Tunica, Mississippi trip, I just wanted to start off by saying that the official plan is to have the blog up every Monday from now on. You can either check back here every Monday, or subscribe to the RSS feed box on the left of the page so you will be notified of when the next blog gets put up. Now that the business part is over, lets get into my last trip.

Ok, so I decided to go to Tunica, Mississippi this weekend for a two day trip. For those of you who haven't been to Tunica before, it's a pretty nice laid back atmosphere compared to Las Vegas or Atlantic City. There really isn't a whole lot going on out here besides the casinos, but it's a nice change of pace.

Alright, so we flew into Memphis Friday morning. Oh, forgot to tell you, but I took Kyle (the owner of VisitLasVegasHotles.com) on this trip and left the wife at home. Sometimes you just have to get away, you know? Anyways, we flew into Memphis and there was limo waiting for us. I don't know why, but I really like the limo rides. There are always a bunch of controls that make the bar light up with fiber optics, and all types of crazy stuff in those things.

Ok, so we stayed at the Horseshoe. I really like the Horseshoe Tunica Mississippi. It has an older feel to it, and the chandeliers that hang over the table games are pretty amazing. We both got our own suite, which Kyle liked. Normally Kyle can get a free room, but not a suite so he was excited about that.

So we went downstairs to the host desk to get our airfare reimbursed. Everyone was really nice to us there, and they comped us free buffets. We were pretty hungry, so we decided to check it out. The Horseshoe has an excellent breakfast buffet by the way. There are a bunch of different stations and all types of good food there.

After breakfast, we hit the blackjack tables. Tunica Mississippi is kind of weird when it comes to blackjack. They are really into "pitch" blackjack there, which is where they deal the cards face down. It's a pretty fun change of pace.

Things were starting off pretty great. We were getting hit in the face with the deck, and I was up $9,000 and Kyle was up $1,000. So then we decided to go next door to the Gold Strike. That is a very nice place as well. It has a little bit of a newer feel than the Horseshoe. Anyways, I lost $3,000 in about 20 minutes, so I decided to walk around and check the place out. We were only there about an hour, and Kyle broke even.

Then we went to the Sheraton. We didn't stay there very long because they didn't really have many tables open for some reason. So, we went back to the Horseshoe and I took a nap in the room. Kyle took the bus over to Harrah's for a while then he came back and we went to dinner at Jack Binion's Steak House. We got a comp over there for $150, and the food was pretty good.

We went to bed early that night and gambled pretty much the whole next day. We were mostly at Harrah's Tunica during the day, and the Horseshoe at night. By the end of the day I was up about $7,000 and Kyle was down about $2,500.

So the morning before we left, Kyle wanted to go to Harrah's and get his money back. So we went over there and played in the high stakes area. We sat down next to this guy who said he was from India. He said he owned hotels, and he was betting about $200-$500 a hand. This guy was a nutcase! The drink girl comes by, and he said in a fake accent, "I'll have donkey milk. Yes, donkey milk. What? You no have donkey milk? Ok, I take horse milk. What? No horse milk either?" He looks over at the pit boss and says, "How you expect me to count cards if I have no donkey or horse milk?!?!"

We thought it was pretty funny, as the pit boss had a look of disgust on his face, and the drink girl was totally confused. So the pit boss tells him to stop messing around, and the drink girl still didn't know what to do. Haha. So finally the guy tells her that he would settle for cow milk.

By now, we had to go to catch a plane, so I let her rip. I bet $2,000 a hand in two spots for about five hands in a row. I won a little off of it, but by now we had to go.

So all in all, I ended up winning about $15,000, and Kyle won $1,000 for the trip. Not a bad weekend. It was kind of a quiet laid back weekend which was nice. Everyone was really nice there and we are looking forward to going back.
