Imperial Palace Hotel Las Vegas: Wallet Friendly, Perfect Location

Location, location, location—that's what the Imperial Palace Hotel Las Vegas offers in spades—plus a kindly attitude to your wallet.

Located right in the heart of The Strip, between Harrah's and The Flamingo and directly across the street from Caesars Palace, you couldn't ask for a better seat for the round-the-clock show that is the Strip. You also couldn't ask for a better mid-Strip bargain than you get from the Imperial Hotel in Las Vegas.

This perfect launching pad for your Vegas adventure has few things going on to keep you on property, but it's best attraction is the ability to get out and about so easily. You can get to most of what you want to see and do on foot from the Imperial Hotel Vegas, or you can catch The Deuce double-decker bus right near the front door. The monorail also has a station right off the back lobby.

At the Imperial Palace hotel, Las Vegas does show her age. It's one of the older hotels on the Strip and was scheduled for demolition a few years before the economy went south. Then parent company, Harrah's entertainment, decided to keep it, renovate it, and market it for what it is—the best bargain going. Most of the more than 2600 rooms have been redesigned and freshened up. The windows actually open, small (read tiny) balconies in most rooms offer a chance at a welcome breeze, the TVs work, the beds are comfortable and room service is usually very fast. It's our basic hotel room and it gets the job done.

One negative: the Imperial Hotel in Vegas has one of the most confusing floor plans imaginable. Elevators and escalators here and there, going you know not where until you get there. Make sure you get a map of the hotel on check in and study it. Here's a tip: When you want to go from the check-in desk to the main elevators, or from your room to the Strip, follow the striped path woven into the carpet. It goes directly from the casino entrance by the elevators through the casino to the front desk and the front doors. It really helps with not getting too lost.

The Imperial Palace Las Vegas rooms range from standard one- and two-bed rooms to the Deluxe King Suite with a comfortable living room area. If you're honeymooning or otherwise traveling with your significant other, consider booking one of the Luv-Tub rooms. You'll get a HUGE Roman "Luv-Tub" (it will hold several people!) and a king-sized bed with mirrored ceiling. The rooms don't have coffee makers, so be prepared. There are ice and soda machines on every floor.

The Imperial Palace Hotel Las Vegas is very popular with budget tour groups from all over the world. Because of its cheaper-than-dirt prices, it also attracts a young party crowd, especially during college breaks. And all these folks are trying to find their way through this maze at the same time. That means the elevators can be very crowded and very slow.

Insiders' Tip: there's another almost unknown set of elevators that are never crowded. These are right behind the main elevators. Go left around the main bank and you'll find three more. Use those to save yourself time and elbowing.

The 2nd floor swimming pool is a pool. It's not a waterfall, a shark tank, infinity pool, or Hawaiian lagoon. But it's a nice way to cool off in the Vegas heat. Lots of chairs, refreshing water, decent (loud) music, often lots of college kids at the pool.

All in all, at the Imperial Palace Hotel, Las Vegas lets you have a good time, a comfortable stay and a reasonable shot at going home with something still in your wallet.
